What Are We Waiting For?

What Are We Waiting For?

The first sign of spring.

The snowdrops bloomed the day my daughter was born.

It was still winter. The ground was hard, the mornings were gray, and there they were anyway. Small white flowers pushing through the snow.

The snowdrop is the first flower to appear at the end of winter, usually before the ground thaws. It's a small sign that something better is coming.

We named the company Snowdrop because we believe patients waiting for life-changing medications, and the people working to help them, deserve to know that something better is coming.

The drugs got better. Getting them didn't.

Imagine your four-year-old son has cystic fibrosis. You've spent years watching him struggle to breathe, wondering what his future will look like. Then his doctor tells you about a breakthrough drug that treats the underlying cause of the disease and could give him a chance at a longer, healthier life.

But the drug costs more than $300,000 a year, and getting it isn’t simple. Documents need to be collected and coverage verified. Insurance needs to approve it.

A week goes by. Then another.

You call for an update. The doctor’s office says they’re waiting on insurance. The insurer says they need more information. Everyone is doing their best, but nobody can tell you when your son will start treatment.

That's the problem we're solving. We're building technology that keeps patient cases moving, so access to medicine can finally catch up with the science.

For the people who do this work.

We’ve spent hundreds of hours with the teams who move patient cases forward every day. We’ve seen how much they carry, and how much of that effort goes unseen.

Much of my career has been in healthcare operations. I know what it’s like to own the number when the queue backs up, when the answers aren’t clear, and when everyone is asking the same question: Where is this case, and why hasn’t it moved?

We believe the people doing this work deserve better tools. Work this important should have the best technology we can build.

Here’s where we're headed.

Getting essential medicine shouldn’t move at the speed of paperwork.

We’re starting with the patient assistance programs that help patients afford the medications they need. We don’t plan to stop there.

Picture this: a specialty medication is prescribed, and the case starts moving right away, across the manufacturer, the doctor’s office, the insurer, the pharmacy, and the support program. The same day, the patient knows whether they’re covered, what they’ll pay, and when their first dose will arrive. Nobody has to ask where the case is, because everyone just knows.

That means patients start life-changing therapies sooner. Fewer prescriptions are abandoned. And people no longer feel stuck without answers.

Getting essential medicine shouldn’t move at the speed of paperwork.

Bring us your hardest question.

We're already working with programs serving hundreds of thousands of patients. We'll share what we learn here, including what's working, what's not, and the numbers behind it.

If you lead patient services at a hub or a manufacturer, I'd like to hear the one question you wish you could answer about your cases today. Email austin@snowdrop.tech.

A snowdrop doesn’t end winter on its own. But it’s a sign the turn has started.

We don't have to wait anymore.
